Having worked in a variety of creative positions, from food to fashion, I believe that each lifestyle discipline has added a layer of passion, expertise and complexity to the way I view the art of entertaining, cooking and living a thoughtful, beautiful life.
With a flair for old world charm, traditional entertaining with a twist, and simple, yet inspired recipes, I founded Strawberry Banke on the premise that menus and parties should be creative, inspired, personal and special. With the right knowledge and planning, it takes just as much effort to host a stylish, thoughtful occasion created yourself, as it does to outsource the pros. Incorporating timeless elements like family recipes or heirloom cocktail glasses are little touches that make your occasion special and unique, while reflecting your own style.
I created the Strawberry Banke blog to inspire all hostesses and home cooks to showcase their own creativity and style with confidence. When you learn what works for you and your home, as well as incorporate your personal style with confidence, you will soon find a cooking and entertaining style that will become easy and effortless the more you practice. It's my goal to help you create your own personal formula to master the art of fine living, effortlessly. Cheers to happy hostessing!
I'm excited to announce that I have partnered with my very talented friend, fellow Charlestonian, and fashion blogger, Kristin Chambless of COLORbyK.com to provide our readers with seasonally themed party inspiration that you can easily recreate in your own home. From creative tablescapes, to cocktails, and all the recipes and florals in between, Kristin and I are thrilled to introduce our #ENTERTAINbyKxSBS series! Our first look of the series, our Holiday Party, was a blast to style, and our unexpected "pink and chartreuse green" color story turned out to be a fun, fresh take on holiday style! We can't wait to feature some of our favorite Charleston creatives and unique brand partners. Be sure to follow along on Instagram and our respective blogs for our favorite tips & tricks - you're in for a treat!
One of my favorite collaborations was also my very first! I had the pleasure of working with several talented creatives to pull off a very fun Valentine's day shoot at Blackwall Hitch in Annapolis. For this Valentine's-inspired shoot, I wanted to bring out the playful, "love drunk" nature of Valentine's Day by using a whimsical, recognizable theme to freshen up the typical Valentine's Day decor. I thought it would be fun to pull references from the timeless story of Alice in Wonderland (i.e. "Drink Me" tags, roses painted red, etc), and incorporate them into a modern bar cart vignette. Bold, modern pops of black, white, fuschia and gold gave a heavily romantic holiday a fresh new look, and playing with scale (oversized decanter and whimsical calligraphy tags, tiny potion bottles, etc.) gave the whole party a quirky feel that I think Alice would have certainly chased down the rabbit hole! My former interior styling partner, Meg Hale and I were thrilled when Charleston-based artist and fellow Annapolitan, Blakely Little of Blakely Made, contacted us to help style her art show at her childhood home in Annapolis. Wanting to bring the nostalgic feel of her parents' home to their gorgeous waterfront backyard, Blakely requested that we create indoor vignettes in an outdoor setting for her guests. Blakely generously gave us the reins to bring a signature "Strawberry Banke" feel (think vintage pieces and punchy accessories paired with her parents' own furniture) to create a unique interactive exhibit that truly felt like home. Guests and collectors were able to walk the grounds through three unique furniture vignettes, all inspired by Blakely's fresh, coastal-inspired artwork. Accessories in warm, autumn tones and punchy mustard yellows offset Blakely's gorgeous pastel blues and greens, and added a cozy feel to a delightfully brisk, sunny Fall day that equally matched Blakely's bright personality!
